Seems like all the die-hard buzz for this flick was instantly dumped once the fad faded. The film is stronger now that I've forgotten most of the comics. Before I was angry that all of the character development and heft in the comics was kicked to the curb in place of flashy loud action sequences but now it all works for me on a variety of levels.
Re-watched it today. Better than I remembered but still not a great movie. One of those cases where something tries so hard it explodes in on itself. Fun concept though.
weird on top of weird on top of weird. one of those rare movies where the script seems to hate its characters more than the audience is supposed to. Napoleon dynamite was great because it seemed to restrain itself in areas where this kept trying to bloom in, and GB felt really removed and stiff where ND was not. loads of wild concepts just stacked on each other for no real reason. I really wanted to go to bat for this film before I saw it after reading some reviews, and even waited years after it's release to see it fresh, but the bad press was somewhat justified. I really wanted to love this movie. :(
'Anger' - this show is -still- trying to find it's voice... I really want to like this thing and this episode got pretty close. It's on the verge on getting great, I can feel it!
I'm not sure I'm a fan of this show, but I do like it! the musical episode and the Christian cult episode were really good. This might be considered a hidden gem in a few years. I think I'll need to watch it again
